GPS receiver woes
While I was out getting my 999th geocache this weekend, I got caught in a rainstorm. After finding the cache and finding shelter from the rain I noticed moisture and condensation inside my GPS receiver screen! Now, one of my GPS receiver's features is supposed to be that it's "Waterproof to IEC 60529 IPX7 standards (can be submerged in one meter of water for up to 30 minutes)" In addition, several of the buttons stopped working. I hoped that when it dried out things would be better, but as of today the buttons are still not working (or working intermittently). So, I called up Garmin to see if they could repair it. Other than a 30 minute wait on hold (their 800 number thankfully), Garmin support is actually quite good. The person on the other end of the line was extremely professional, very pleasant and arranged to have me send it in for warranty repair. While they say it should take 7-10 business days turn around time (including return shipping) from when they receive it, when I sent my previous GPS receiver (an eTrex Legend) in for warranty replacement 17 months ago it came back in less than a week and that was the week before Christmas! So, here's hoping that my experience with Garmin warranty repair is as good this time as it was last time (and I have no reason to believe it will be otherwise).
